The Shapers Workshop has been established to share skills to those who want to learn the art of shaping surfboards. In an industry that has been very reluctant to share its knowledge, the majority of surfboard manufacturing is now either machine shaped or sent overseas causing a void where interested people have nowhere to learn shaping skills. This is where the Shapers Workshop steps in.
The Surfboard Shapers Workshop has been divided into several types.
Firstly The Alaia Shapers Workshop is a 4 1/2 hour course that is designed to cater for anyone wanting to shape their own timber Alaia surfboard. The Alaia has a long history, first documented by Captian Cook on his visit to Hawaii and is now having a resurgence with the interest in discovering the roots of surfing.
With all materials and equipment supplied, Richard guides the shaper through design, the process of cutting the plan shape, turning the rails and finish shaping. The the logos are burned in and the board is oiled and ready to surf. Gift certificates are available. All Shapers workshops are conducted at Harvey Surf unit 3 10 Pacific Ave Miami and all protective equipment is supplied.
